I reach for a jacket now as I walk out the door in the early morning for Bella's walk. The summer colors are softening, the first leaves are falling and the winter squash vines are dying back exposing enormous squash. The wood storage barn is filling up with neat stacks of firewood and I am starting to collect kindling during my walks. Autumn aproaches and I am reminded that soon I must coil up the garden hose, verify that the woodstove is clean and ready, prepare the storage area for the picnic table and BBQ, and spread straw in the sheep's barn. There is a constant rhythm to life in the country. The changing seasons require a change in lifestyle. Summer is so busy with gardening and friends that I begin to look forward to the silence of winter.
My daughter Dana arrived from the states bringing her joyful energy, big smile and her love and hugs that I have missed desperately. She also brought a suitcase full of gifts including frisbees and toys for Bella.
Thanks to Mark's beautiful work, there is progress on Tòti:
He built a mold for the roof beams and we worked together laminating and gluing with epoxy resin one roof beam every day for ten days. They are so lovely that I have decided to varnish them instead of covering them with paint.
We have had a problem with the plywood but we expect a new delivery this week. We feel it very important to have a high quality lightweight plywood. Some months ago we chose Joubert Okoumi Okouplex plywood. There was a mistake in the delivery which we didn't notice until recently. Now we are waiting for the Okouplex to be delivered and the lower quality plywood returned.
Dana hand carried the stained glass window created by Scott Ecelberger. It is beautiful. I am in love with it! (There are photos taken by Scott in previous postings) The carrying case for the window that Scott built was a work of art in itself.
My friend Natasha Myers is donating the fabric for the ceiling over the bed of Tòti. We chose it from the website Spoonflower.
Yesterday we had a surprise visit from Barbara Roth's Anywhere Art workshop. A dozen exuberant and joyful artists came to visit Tòti and wander around this land that I love so dearly. What happiness they brought us!!
Barbara's website is definitely worth a visit!
