Winter Blues

The snows of early February transformed our world into a fantasyland. We walked, surrounded by the blue winter light, footsteps crunching in the silent dawn, as if parading on an enormous wedding cake.

The first snowflakes always create such a tingling of excitement. Walking in the silent softness with no trace of another human is a joyful gift for the small child in my being. However, after a few days the reality changes and life becomes difficult. Walking the dog on ice, especially a young dog, is treacherous, and the cold seeps through the walls and floors of this old stone house. Keeping warm, eating well, and caring for furry and feathered friends takes priority over everything else during these cold times. The smallest sign of spring brings a smile; the Peacock flaunting his magnificent tail feathers for the hen, the Snowdrops sprinkling the earth.

Tòti Bleu sleeps, warm and protected in the garage. I have finished the sleeping area side of the partition. Impatience will be my friend now because there is nothing else I can do until spring arrives. The white border of the partition will be hidden by the roof beam and side beams. Therefore this side has less surface to paint and I have made it much simpler. The design is gold leaf.
